There are two qualification options for the basic chainsaw module:
City & Guilds (NPTC) 0020-03 Maintain & Operate the Chainsaw & Basic Cross-Cutting
Pre-Requisite Qualification: None
Formerly known as CS30 this qualification is suitable for those who work in the forest and/or arboricultural industries or those who need to be able to progress to fell and process material over 200mm in diameter. Our course prepares candidates to take their assessment with a City & Guilds independent assessor. Dale Valley Training arranges NPTC assessments on behalf of their candidates.

This Integrated Training & Assessment course is suitable for those outside of the forest and/or arboricultural industries or those who do not need to be able to progress to fell and process material over 200mm in diameter. Candidates complete an assessment / test at the end of the course with their instructor.
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to operate a chainsaw at a basic level. The course is very physical and candidates must be fit and able to carry out the tasks required of the course.
Course content:
- Operator safety, risk assessments, current legislation
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Daily & routine maintenance on a chainsaw
- Starting & checking the chainsaw
- Cross-cutting
- Emergency procedures on a work site
- Stacking cross-cut timber
Duration:
Training for City & Guilds NPTC: 2 Days plus assessment time
